In 2026 the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination found that Greek-language proficiency tests for certain jobs may discriminate in practice, even though Turkish is also an official language. A Committee expert put on the record that public-service job announcements are published only in Greek. Separately, the state scholarship foundation drew Ombudsman interventions over Greek-only announcements twice — in 2016 and again in 2024. In its 2024 report the Ombudsman concluded, based on the necessity case-law, that the foundation has no constitutional duty to publish in Turkish. It recommended English as a matter of course and Turkish only as an exception. It pointed to the Civil Registry Department, which already issues Turkish-language forms even though it is not legally required to. The Ombudsman's signed report itself is not separately published on its website.12345
