Administrative Court upheld a citizenship waitlist decision in a mixed-parent case

OHCHR's Cyprus report records that on 28 March 2024 the Administrative Court found lawful an October 2019 decision to place a citizenship request on a waiting list for future consideration.

The applicant was a Turkish citizen born in Cyprus in 1995 to a Turkish Cypriot mother and a Turkish father. OHCHR reports that the Administrative Court held the October 2019 waiting-list decision to be correct and lawful.1

The Court rejected the discrimination argument because the applicant had not provided sufficient details to substantiate it. The OHCHR report does not say that the applicant was later granted or refused citizenship, and it does not reproduce the full domestic reasoning or the waiting-list timetable.1
