Cyprus votes to lower the voting age to 17, effective from July 2027

Cyprus Mail reported the House of Representatives vote on 22 May 2025; the official constitutional amendment states that the age changes from 18 to 17 and enters into force on 1 July 2027.

The House of Representatives voted on 22 May 2025 to lower the voting age from 18 to 17, according to Cyprus Mail. The official text, Law 67(I)/2025, published in the Official Gazette on 30 May 2025, replaces “eighteen years” with “seventeen years” in Article 63 of the Constitution.12

The amendment's section 3 sets 1 July 2027 as its entry-into-force date. These sources establish the legislative vote, the constitutional wording and the future effective date; they do not establish that the amendment applied to an election in 2026 or that Turkish Cypriots resident in the north could use the Republic's national franchise.2
